Getting Ink Flowing

BEERZ MEANZ LINEZ
By Andrew K Lawston

Now that coffee shops are all full of people scribbling away, I retreat to the local pub with my battered exercise book.

Sitting in a quiet corner with a pint of beer, the self-conscious posing of a 'Starbucks novelist' becomes faint embarrassment at writing in such a robustly un-intellectual environment. My gaze falls to blank pages that I attack through sheer awkwardness.

I can only write for around two hours before my pen becomes unsteady, and the drafting process brings up interesting quirks of language. But nothing gets ink flowing quicker for me than alcohol and shame!
