Have you had "all is lost" moments with your writing?
We recently wrote about a friend who had lost the entire rewrite of his screenplay. We learned that he was able to have it recovered. Some big-time company offered to use a highly sophisticated process to retrieve the contents
of his hard drive. He was delighted to not have to start all over again with the rewrite.
In screenplays there is supposed to be a plot point that occurs right before the climax. It is called the "all is lost"
section. The hero appears to have failed at everything he was trying to accomplish. Then there is a plot twist that either confirms his world has crashed down around his ears or points him in a direction that helps him achieve the final goal. By having the "all is lost" moment, it heightens the drama and makes the climax much more emotionally effective.
Have you had "all is lost" moments with your writing? If so, what happened next? What tips do you have for getting through those peaks and valleys of writing on the run?
