Are you ready when opportunity knocks to take your Writing on the Run to the next level?
We recently had what could have been an incredible break when a national television news program called us to do an interview about a story of a precognitive nursing home cat named Oscar. You may have read about him in the news.
The interview didn't work out. We missed the call by minutes. The producer decided that it was "yesterday's news," so didn't want to cover it again the next day.
The experience heartened us to realize that we are now on the radar of a national media outlet as an expert on the subject of animals and spirituality. It also served as a wakeup call. We realized that we were not actually as prepared as we needed to be.
For one thing, we must check our voicemail messages more often when we are both out of the office so we don't miss important calls. We also realized that we should put our cell phone numbers on all of our press releases. More than likely, this was a media outlet that had received one of our previous press releases and filed it for future reference.
Also, we came to the conclusion that we must update our website so it serves our needs better, as authors, and is as up-to-date as possible for casual visitors and the media.
So now we are busy getting ready for the next call when a breaking story occurs. Lesson learned: these things happen in an instant and are gone in an instant.
