What is your tactic for writing on the run when the gremlins get in your way?

While driving home after our morning walk around the lake, we hit barriers at every turn. There was a big event with runners practicing for the marathon that is coming up soon. It seemed that there was no way to get out of the park area. We had to keep twisting and turning, trying new routes until we finally managed to escape.

The road to writing and publishing is littered with obstacles and barriers. We call them gremlins in the system. Whenever you are trying to achieve a goal, the gremlins sneak in and slow down your progress or divert your path.

We had a snafu concerning our new book. It could have led to one of those ranting and raving tirades that allow for venting but essentially ruin relationships. Instead, we found another way to get the task accomplished and were gracious with the person who had slipped up.

We have learned over these many years to keep moving ahead instead of spending time dwelling on disappointments or roiling in anger. You might feel better after letting someone who made a mistake receive your wrath, but it s not likely you will accomplish your goals. Writing on the run also means continuing to write by finding
other routes when your old ones are blockaded. You keep writing even though you would like to stop and berate somebody who didn’t do what you wanted.
